As others have stated it seems GM hates honoring these warranties, so the best way is to go my.gmc website and open a account. However, all this is covered under GM's extended warranty, but you have to do your homework. Bad Piston rings cause the oil burning issue, Also the 2010-2011 had sub par timing chains that stretched and chewed through the guides. I have a 2011 GMC Terrain 2.4 EcoTec, and yes that engine is garbage. The 2.4 had a few variations, but the latest redesigned Ecotec was a 2.5 and 2.0 turbocharged They are generally wholesale auction or repo cars, so likely to have been neglected. I get to work on lots of '08-'12 Malibus and related GM vehicles with the 2.4. Thanks to those who have taken time to respond. How many of those have been since the redesign? Any idea on how they maintained them or mileage they had? I have replaced several 2.4 Ecoturdz because the timing chain guides fell apart, the chain sheared off the guide bolts, and the labor to drill out the bolts, replace the timing set, etc, is more than a used engine.Īt least half of the 2.4 Ecoturdz that I work on have timing chain rattles, lots of sparkly metal in the oil, and need new VVT solenoids. Garbage engine built by a garbage company that should have been allowed to go bankrupt. Once it starts eating oil, it needs a rebuild, bumping the oil up to 5W-40 slows it for a bit. GM will if you can brow Beat them into it, cover maybe up to $1,000 of the cost, and that's if you are within days of the warranty expiring. The 2.4 Eco-Turd is notorious for the rings crapping out and GM absolutely hates honouring the extended warranty, and the dealers only admit to a service bulletin once the clock has run out. You may be thinking about valve timing issues with the pre 2012 engine, but were fixed with a complete redesign in 2012? What bad rep of this motor? This one is pretty bulletproof.
